Removal & Reinstallation in New Jersey
When do do solar panels need to be removed and reinstalled?
Solar power systems are built to be durable, with components lasting anywhere from 20 – 30 years. But depending on the age and condition of your roof, you may need to perform repairs to areas that are covered by solar panels. Cracked or broken shingles, leaks and other issue can arise due to the weather we encounter here in New Jersey. When this happens, homeowners may need removal and reinstallation (R&R) of their solar panel system.
How It Works
The solar removal and reinstallation process.
The first step of an R&R in New Jersey involves safely de-energizing your solar system. Next, the solar panels panels, racking/mounting hardware, microinverters and any wiring on the roof will be removed. The solar system will be stripped down to a point that keeps your property safe and makes the reinstall easy. Any roof penetrations left behind from lag bolts or screws will be filled in to help prevent moisture intrusion.
Now that the system components are removed, the roof repair work can begin. After that is completed, we will reinstall the racking, wiring, panels and other components. Upon completion, your system will be reenergized so you can begin producing energy again.

Common questions about removal and reinstallation in New Jersey
How long does R&R take?
Most residential systems (5-20kW in size) installed on asphalt shingles will require 1 day for the panels and racking to be removed. The reinstallation process will then typically take another day after the work on your roof is finished.
Can you reuse the same equipment when reinstalling solar panels?
In most situations we will be able to reuse your existing equipment, especially the main components like panels, inverters and racking.
