Pennsylvania Removal & Reinstallation

When do do solar panels need to be removed and reinstalled?

Solar power systems are designed for durability, with components typically lasting between 20 to 30 years. However, depending on the age and condition of your roof, you might need to address repairs in areas covered by solar panels. Cracked or broken shingles, leaks, and other issues can develop due to the weather conditions we experience in Pennsylvania. When this happens, homeowners may require the removal and reinstallation (R&R) of their solar panel system.

How It Works

The solar removal and reinstallation process.

The first step of an R&R in Pennsylvania involves safely de-energizing your solar system. Then, the solar panels, racking/mounting hardware, microinverters, and any rooftop wiring will be carefully removed. The system will be dismantled to a level that ensures property safety and makes the reinstallation process smooth. Any roof penetrations left from lag bolts or screws will be sealed to prevent moisture intrusion.

Once the system components are removed, roof repair work can begin. After the roof repairs are completed, we will reinstall the racking, wiring, panels, and other components. Once finished, your system will be re-energized, allowing you to resume energy production.

Common questions about removal and reinstallation in Pennsylvania

How long does R&R take?

Most residential systems (5-20kW in size) installed on asphalt shingles will require 1 day for the panels and racking to be removed. The reinstallation process will then typically take one more day after the work on your roof is finished.

Can you reuse the same equipment when reinstalling solar panels?

In most cases, we can reuse your existing equipment, particularly the primary components like panels, inverters, and racking. As a GAF Master Elite certified roofing contractor, we make the entire process seamless and efficient by addressing your solar and roofing needs together. Our project manager will keep you informed if any main components are damaged or require replacement during the process.
